Welsh international defender Steve Evans has decided to stay at The Racecourse Ground and help his hometown club return to the Football League.

Evans has signed a new deal to keep him at Wrexham for the coming season, with the option of another 12 months after that.

The towering centre-back had been given time to assess his future following the club’s relegation from League Two last season.

But after returning from international duty and speaking with boss Brian Little he was happy to pledge his future to the club. Evans was also pleased with the new faces being recruited for 2008-09.

“We sorted things out pretty quickly and I’m glad it’s all settled, said the former TNS man.

“I was disappointed with the way things went last season and then it didn’t help just sitting on the bench for the two recent Wales games.

“But I came back last week, had a chat with the boss and after a few days away with the family was happy to come in and sign on again.

“After last season I know I shouldn’t be, but I do feel we will have a good year, we are certainly due one.

“If we can get the momentum going then I am sure we will be up there challenging.”

So far this summer Little has brought in midfielder Paul Carden and strikers Jefferson Louis and Simon Brown. Fellow defender Carl Tremarco has also signed a new deal, and professional contracts have been handed out to Chris Marriott and Chris Maxwell, who have impressed in the youth ranks.
