Constable tipped to grasp chance

Monday 9th June 2008, 11:50AM BST.

James ConstableManager Paul Simpson is confident Shrewsbury Town fans have yet to see the best of big-money January signing James Constable.Constable scored three goals after being signed by Gary Peters from Kidderminster for an undisclosed but substantial transfer fee during the January window.

He threw himself into the limelight with a dramatic brace in the memorable fightback from 3-0 down to salvage a point against champions MK Dons.

He did, however, make only seven starts and Constable has already spelled out his determination to become a more regular fixture in the starting line-up when the new season gets underway in August.

And Simpson has vowed to give the forward his opportunity to impress as he bids to establish himself at Oteley Road.

“I definitely think there is more to come from James,” said the Town boss.

“He is still very raw and inexperienced at Football League level but he has got good attributes and he has also got a good attitude and is prepared to come into the club and work hard, which is very important.

“James will get his chance and it’s up to him whether he takes it.”

Meanwhile, Simpson is soon set to learn whether he will be without another of his forwards – Guy Madjo – for the opening weeks of the season.

Madjo is currently at a training camp with the Cameroon under-23 squad ahead of August’s Beijing Olympics and would be absent for the start of the campaign should he make the cut for the final squad.

“It’s not a big worry at the moment because we don’t know what the final squad will be,” added Simpson.

“They have a friendly against Japan in the next two or three days and the squad will be announced after that.

“Clearly if Guy is in the squad then he will miss the start of the season but we have had no paperwork to that effect at the moment.”

He’s good and we can expect a lot more from James. Should be starting regularly next season.
