Roaders now set pace in title race

Saturday 7th June 2008, 11:49AM BST.

This season’s title chase in the Furrows Shropshire Premier Bowls League looks like being the closest for years after the latest set of results.

Previous leaders Wem USC lost 12-2 at Meole Brace – and results elsewhere saw Chester Road, Castlefields and last year’s champions St Georges all move above them.

There are now just two points separating the top four. Meole Brace’s victory, with Adie Rowe leading the way with a 21-7 card, was a repeat of last year’s score and saw Wem’s seven point lead wiped out.

Chester Road are now top thanks to their 12-2 home win over bottom club Childs Ercall, Andy Moss taking the coppers with a 21-9 win.

Castlefields also have 91 points after their 11-3 home victory over Wrockwardine Wood. The Dragons are now just two points adrift after their 13-1 hammering of local rivals Donnington Wood, with Kevin Keary enjoying the perfect game with a 21-0 win.

Elsewhere it was a good night for the home sides with Ford, Newport and Bylet all winning against SJ Bayley, Ifton and Archibald Worthington.

Results: St Georges 13 (K Keary 21-0) Donnington Wood 1 (M Williams 21-20), Newport 10 (+37 P Emery 21-5) Ifton 4 (Dickie Jones 21-7), Bylet 10 (B Waters 21-6) Archibald Worthington 4 (J Tew 21-13), Chester Road 12 (+38 A Moss 21-9) Childs Ercall 2 (S Edwards 21-15)

Castlefields 11 (+69 G Herbert 21-5) Wrockwardine Wood 3 (L Stevens 21-12), Meole Brace 12 (+47 A Rowe 21-7) Wem USC 2 (S Allmark 21-9), Ford 11 (P Griffiths, D Hoffman 21-9) SJ Bayley 3 (S Burroughs 21-10)
