Pair to drum up new cash for Bucks
Saturday 7th June 2008, 11:49AM BST.
AFC Telford United have unveiled a new look commercial team – with Jonathan Martin and Ian Tyrer coming on board to attract more sponsorship. The two avid Telford supporters run their own consultancies and both have agreed to assist with generating new sources of revenue for the club over the coming 12 months.
Tyrer will focus on generating new sponsorship, while Martin, who is also commercial director for The New Saints, will act as the club’s customer relations manager, in particular focussing on looking after the club’s current sponsors.
Both have worked for the club behind the scenes over the past four years.
Martin has developed and run the hugely successful Bucks Business Club and his company, Martin Mortgages, have been match ball sponsors for every game since 2005.
Tyrer has overseen the accounts of the club since it’s inception and filled in as secretary between August and February of last season.
Club chairman Lee Carter said: “We are reluctant to take on a full-time commercial manager as the football world in particular seems to be littered with people who promise much and deliver very little in comparison to the salary that they command.
“Quite often the first deal they negotiate is a free car for themselves.
“We hope that Ian and Jonathan, who are both very dedicated and passionate about the club and are both very good operators, can help take us to that next level in terms of the way we attract and look after businesses that sponsor the club.”
