League shake-up on Bucks agenda
Friday 6th June 2008, 11:49AM BST.
AFC Telford United will have a clearer picture of the challenge that awaits them in the Blue Square North next season after the league AGM tomorrow.Director Dave Topping will be representing the club at the event in Blackpool, with chairman Lee Carter and vice chairman Wyn Pryce both unavailable.
It promises to be a lively meeting, with several clubs facing uncertain futures.
Nuneaton Borough have already gone into liquidation, and it is expected that Vauxhall Motors will get a reprieve from relegation as a result of that.
Boston United are sure to prove a talking point as well. The Lincolnshire outfit is facing relegation from the league because they have broken a competition rule that clubs should have settled all debts by the second Saturday in May.
“AGMs tend to be fairly mundane events, but since we’ve been in the Conference they have been fairly interesting,” said Carter.
“Last year we had Boston being relegated twice (from the Football League to Blue Square North) and they’ve got problems again.
“There’s also situations with one or two other clubs that need to be sorted out.
“There always seem to be financial problems, and I personally feel clubs should have to produce a set of accounts at the AGM. They should have to prove they can trade for the season as a minimum standard.”
