King all set for Stanley

Highly-rated Chris King is set to leave The New Saints for a switch to League Two side Accrington Stanley.

The loss of the 27-year-old wing back will be a blow to last season’s Welsh Premier runners-up following six successful seasons with the club.

Signed from Southport in the summer of 2002, King won three Welsh Premier championship medals as well as the Loosemores League Cup and Welsh Cup. He also featured in both legs of the Saints’ Champions League ties with Liverpool, MyPa-47 and Ventspils.

The son of former Tranmere and Bangor City player, Alan King, he has scored nine goals from 128 Welsh Premier appearances.

King was voted into the league’s team of the season last month for second year running but now looks to have played his last game for the Saints.

“Chris will be a good addition to the squad because he’s got European experience and he’s used to winning things. It’s all good that he’s left-footed to give us a bit of balance,” said Stanley boss John Coleman.
