Cricketers in KO blow
Monday 2nd June 2008, 11:49AM BST.
Results went the wrong way for Shropshire as they missed out on a place in the knockout stages of cricket’s MCCA Trophy.
Shropshire completed their four group one games a fortnight ago, and were forced to watch and wait as the final round of fixtures were played out yesterday.
And it proved to be a day of disappointment as both Cheshire and Oxfordshire won to overhaul them and take the qualification places.
Cheshire won a rain-affected match with Cumberland to top the group, while Oxfordshire beat Bedfordshire to squeeze Shropshire out by virtue of a superior net run rate.
“It’s a real blow,” said Shropshire chairman Bryan Foulkes. “We had two matches that were wiped out by the weather and the second one was a freak storm.”

Another load of cash wasted. When will Shropshire stop paying money out for the sake of it. Maunders, Foster, Catterall, Rehman,Ralph, Taylor, Gray, Bayliss and still no qualification.

I don’t understand why anybody still watches this team of nomads? Maunders, Catterall, Rehman x2, Gray, Bayliss – What have they got to do with Shropshire? Just 5/6/7 local players per game is a disgrace. If my memory serves me correctly, the chairman of selectors – Trevor Shepherd – resigned over 3 outsiders and a lack of opportunity for local players to develop in the 90′s – Crikey! he must have had a change of heart or is either hellbent on the “nomads” winning a trophy!

It seems all about winning and nothing to do with the good of Shropshire cricket. Roll on a change at the top
