Creeping caterpillars – what’s this?

Shropshire Star photographer James Watkins spotted the caterpillar nest just outside Munslow on the B4368 towards Bridgnorth.Shropshire Star photographer James Watkins spotted this extremely large caterpillar nest that appears to be taking over part of a Shropshire hedge.

James noticed the huge nest just outside Munslow on the B4368 towards Bridgnorth.

The nest was on an extremely fast part of the road and is more than two metres in length.

    This looks like the larval nest of one of the Small Ermine Moths, possibly Yponomeuta padella, not uncommon on Hawthorn and Blackthorn.
