Villagers victims of petrol thefts

Friday 30th May 2008, 11:50AM BST.

Residents in a village near Shrewsbury are blaming rising fuel prices for a recent spate of petrol thefts from their cars.

During the past three weeks four villagers in Lower Cross, Cross Houses, have found fuel has been taken from their vehicles overnight.

Diane Petty, 47, and her husband Alan, 52, have had their car targeted three times so far and blame the increase in the cost of fuel.

Mrs Petty said: “My husband has now on three occasions had fuel taken and been late for work.

“My neighbour had over £25 taken this last Monday.

“She’d just filled up the day before and when she got into the car to go to work in the morning the fuel light was on.”

Mrs Petty said: “My husband went in to report it a couple of weeks ago but as far as I know they haven’t followed it up,” she added.

Police today said they were unable to comment on the incidents.
