TV signal still bugs viewers

Thursday 29th May 2008, 6:59PM BST.

Residents living in the shadow of Shrewsbury’s new £28 million theatre today said problems with their TV reception were continuing despite the crane, which had been blamed, being removed.

An investigation by Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council found the most likely cause of signal problems experienced in Frankwell was a tower crane used during construction at the site.

But frustrated residents claim that despite its removal last week, the situation has not improved.

The problem is so bad some homeowners say they have had to invest in satellite TV in order to watch their favourite programmes.

William Pree, of Whitehorse Mews opposite the theatre, said he had been told by council officials that tests would now be carried out.

He said: “It’s no better and my wife actually rang Leela Cottey (assistant project manager), who said they are going to carry out some tests.

“Our bedrooms actually face the back of the theatre and we’ve bought a new set top box, bought TV boosters and digital and it’s just not fair. One minute the signal’s there the next minute it’s away again.

“There are a lot of stations missing.”

The council says it has no legal responsibility for sorting out the problems but is carrying out an investigation on behalf of residents.

It has previously confirmed that a handful of complaints had been received.

Nobody was available for comment from the authority today.
