Artist Jane Robbins in front of her new statue of Fred DibnahAn eight-foot-high statue of steeplejack Fred Dibnah designed by a Shropshire artist has been vandalised only one month after it was unveiled in Bolton.

Jane Robbins, who has a studio in Shrewsbury, carefully crafted the bronze statue of the late TV favourite and it marked what would have been Fred’s 70th birthday.

But vandals climbed up the bronze tribute and twisted Dibnah’s famous wire-rimmed glasses.

Mr Dibnah died, aged 66, in November 2004.
