Madjo dreaming of Olympics
Saturday 24th May 2008, 11:28AM BST.
Shrewsbury Town could have an Olympian in their ranks at this summer’s Beijing jamboree.
Striker Guy Madjo has been selected for a Cameroon under-23 training camp, a squad which will go on to represent the country in China in August.
But Madjo would miss the start of Town’s League Two campaign should he be successful in making the final 23-day squad.
The powerfully-built forward will fly to France to join his compatriots for the 19-day camp on June 1. It also features an away friendly in Japan on June 12.
Madjo turns 24 on Saturday week and will be classed as one of four over-age players should he make the cut.

“It’s great news for both Guy and the club that he has been called up for the Cameroon,” said Simpson.
“Hopefully he can go out and impress, push for a place in the Olympic team and represent the club well.”
Madjo was one of the major signings completed by manager Gary Peters in the January transfer window when he was snapped up from non-League Crawley for £20,000.
He enjoyed a lively debut at Hereford and followed that up with two goals in as many games – in the 2-0 home win over Morecambe and a draw at Grimsby.
But he has since been restricted to a bit-part role and has managed only one more goal – in the 4-1 defeat at Barnet in what proved Peters final game in charge.
Cameroon have a proud record in the Olympic tournament having won the gold medal in 2000 in Sydney.
Should Madjo be named in the final squad, he will face group D matches against Korea, Honduras and Italy.
A potential meeting with Brazil could await in the quarter-finals.
