The Bank Holiday fixture bonanza could not have come at a worse time for Wellington – who have a host of availability problems for their Birmingham League double-header.

The Orleton Park men will be wracking up the miles too, travelling to division one leaders Old Hill tomorrow and then setting off again on Monday to travel to second-placed Harborne.

That would be tough enough, but Wellington’s problems have increased further with a number of players not able to play in both games.

Steve Lamb and former skipper Gavin Byram can both only play on Saturday, while Mick Davidson only returns from a trip abroad on Sunday.

Captain Anthony O’Connor will play despite an injury , but will not be able to bowl.

“These two games couldn’t really have come at a worse time for us,” said chairman of cricket Adam Byram.”Our pro Rajat Bhatia should hopefully be here next week, but we probably could have done with his help this weekend with the way the fixtures have worked out.

“It’s a shame we’re not going in with a full strength squad, but we’re still going into the games in good form and we’re feeling quite buoyant.”

Shrewsbury entertain Halesowen tomorrow, before heading to Coventry & West Warwick for the second fixture on Monday.

All three sides are yet to record a win – but Shrewsbury have county allrounder Rob Foster back in the ranks for the first time this season as they look to put that right.

Foster, whose brother Ed captains the side, arrives in good form, having plundered runs and wickets for Cardiff University.

But pace bowler Jack Shantry provides the main negative – he is unavailable tomorrow as he will instead be at Wembley roaring on his football team Bristol City in the Championship play-off final with Hull.

The side are also keeping their fingers crossed that Wayne Merrick will be fit as he battles to recover from a hamstring injury.

Shifnal team manager Chris Cadman is keen to see his side dig deep and find their fighting spirit with up to 48 premier division points available over the weekend.

They travel to Wolverhampton tomorrow for a game Cadman regards as a derby, before entertaining Leamington Spa at Priorslee Road on Monday.

Guy Home comes in for brother Ed for tomorrow’s game, but the pair will switch again on Monday.

“There’s nearly 50 points to play for, so it would be nice to get in there and pick the lion’s share of those up,” said Cadman.

“We’ve been winning in the cup competitions and we need to start doing that in the league games too.”
