Part of victim’s right ear bitten off

Monday 19th May 2008, 11:50AM BST.

A man had part of his ear bitten off when he tried to intervene between a couple arguing at a Telford club. The victim was today facing the prospect of plastic surgery after the attack at the Hills Lane Social Club in Madeley.

The 26-year-old injured man was today under observation at Birmingham’s Selly Oak Hospital.

Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said the man had attempted to intervene in an argument between another man and a woman. He said the attacker arguing did not like the victim stepping in and an altercation began.

Mr Ammonds said: “During the course of the altercation the two men fell to the floor and a scuffle started.

“At some point during this scuffle the victim had a significant part of his right ear bitten off.

“Eventually the victim managed to get back to his feet and at this point the other man made off.

“Having been rushed to hospital in an ambulance, the victim is currently under observation in Birmingham as medical staff attempt to establish the best long-term treatment for his injury.

“It appears likely the victim will require plastic surgery to repair the damage to his ear.”

The incident happened on Saturday, at about 8.10pm.

Anyone who witnessed the attack can call Telford CID on 08457 444888.
