Lord’s run is back on track

cricket-ball22.jpgShropshire’s Minor Counties cricketers have given themselves a realistic chance of moving within two games of a Lord’s final.James Ralph’s side ran out comfortable six-wicket winners at Bedfordshire yesterday.

That took Shropshire to the top of pool A but, with their four round-robin matches now completed, players and officials face an anxious wait two-week wait to see if they remain in the top two.

Shropshire will progress if either Cheshire or Oxfordshire fail to win their final group matches against Cumberland and Bedfordshire.

And, even if both of their rivals win, Shropshire could still progress if their net run-rate is superior to Oxfordshire’s.

Shropshire aided their cause on that front yesterday by successfully chasing their target of 137 inside 34 of the allotted 50 overs.

“It was a great performance and we have done all that we can,” said captain Ralph. “We will just have to see what happens in the last round of games.

“If we don’t qualify we will feel very hard done by because we have won two convincingly, had one washed out and lost a game at Cheshire on run-rate when a freak storm came in.”
