Petrol bomb thrown at house

Saturday 17th May 2008, 11:50AM BST.

Families had to be evacuated from their homes after a petrol bomb was thrown at a house in Mid Wales early today. Police are investigating the incident in Presteigne.

Emergency services went to the Mid Wales Housing property in Lugg View after 999 calls at about 3am to say a fire bomb had been thrown at a house.

Fire crews from Mid Wales were joined by colleagues from Hereford and Worcester.

At first it was thought the fire had been confined to bushes in the garden and firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control.

But fire crews were called out again to the same house at 6.45am.

A spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire Service said a small fire had been discovered in the lining of the wall of the property.

“The residents of the property and three adjoining properties in Lugg View were evacuated for a time while firefighters cut away brickwork to gain access to the seat of the fire,” he said.

He said no one was injured in either incident.

Police and the fire service are now investigating the fire bomb.

Detectives based at Llandrindod Wells were making inquiries in Presteigne and specialist scenes of crime offices have also been at the house recovering evidence.

Witnesses or anyone who has any information that could help officers investigating the incident are urged to contact Dyfed Powys police on (01267) 222020 or the confidential Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111.
