Town seek final pre-season tie

Shrewsbury Town were today attempting to fill a void in their pre-season programme – after being let down by a Premiership club.
Manager Paul Simpson had been on the brink of securing a home friendly against top flight opposition on Saturday, August 2, only for the mystery club to withdraw.
“It’s very disappointing but we have got some other irons in the fire so hopefully something will be resolved in the next day or two,” said Simpson.
Games against West Bromwich Albion, Stafford Rangers and a Shropshire Senior Cup semi-final against Market Drayton Town have already been confirmed.
Simpson – who is confident of finalising Asa Hall’s permanent move from Birmingham in the next few days – continues to be involved in negotiations to re-shape his squad. “There are quite a few things on-going, and we are talking to players and agents,” he added.
“At the moment we are looking at free transfers because there is going to be a hell of a lot of Bosman transfers available this summer.
“We have to be patient though because we don’t want to jump in and sign someone and then find a better option is available later down the line. We have had one or two enquiries about our players but nothing major.”

ah ha block 16 you forget exeter and shrewsbury town have things in common.
1 we beat them 2-1 away in 2000 to keep town up in the last game of that season
2 gary peters took them into the conference with town in 2003?
3 gary peters nearly took us down this season
i for one am willing exeter to beat cambridge and to regain their rightful place back in the league, no matter how tatty their away quarters may be.

spencer, i do not share your confidence, jimmy quinn took us on a magical cup run where i think he took us to the 4th round only for town to lose narrowly 4-0 at home to chelsea , and zola and co. did he not then take town into freefall to the conference, yes he brought us back thanks probably to town’s superior penalty taking. without that we may still have been where exeter city temporarily find themselves. any way let us see if i am wearing sack cloths and ashes on monday! come on the reds(just for sundays game)
