Beauty queen is all smiles
Tuesday 6th May 2008, 6:59PM BST.
Student Jamie Williams, from Mid Wales, is celebrating coming third in a national beauty competition.
The 21-year-old was named second runner-up in the final of Miss Universe UK.
Jamie, from Llanymynech, said: “I am delighted to have come third out of 42 girls as I thought it was a much tougher contest than any I have been in before.
“It was a really great feeling when I heard my name being called out because I wasn’t sure how well I had done.”
The competition was won by Llanelli model Lisa Lazarus, who will now go on to represent the UK in the Miss Universe world final.
Some of the celebrity judges included Arsenal footballers Bacary Sagna and Justin Hoyte.
Jamie is no stranger to beauty competitions, having come second in Miss Wales 2006. She said: “Coming placed in Miss Wales was a great feeling, because it was the first contest I had entered, but this is even better. I am just really, really pleased.”
Sarah Rowlands, 24, from Welshpool, and 25-year-old Beverley Roberts, of Trefeglwys, also made the final, but were unsuccessful.
The contest raised more than £35,000 for the Joshua Foundation, which provides holidays and events for children with terminal cancer.

I’d just like to point out that Sarah Rowlands from Welshpool was not ‘unsuccessful’ in the competiton as it states in the article. Sarah won the Miss Charity 2008 title as she raised the most money for The Joshua Foundation out of all the girls in the competition.
