Moss stars as champs humbled

Shropshire bowls selector John Nash hailed “a fantastic result” as reigning Endsleigh county champions Warwick & Worcester were seen off in style.
Stunning home and away performances yesterday added up to a 54 shot success over the Birmingham boys that gives Shropshire a great chance of reaching the semi-finals as winners of qualifying group three.
Chester Road star Andy Moss produced what selector Mick Jones described as a “sublime” show in beating home captain Steve Freer 21-9 at No 1 at Moor Lane, setting up a six chalk triumph with seven winners out of the 12 games.
And it was Shropshire No 1 Glyn Herbert who set the tone at Wem USC, recovering from 10-0 with a man of the match display to beat Paul Gamsby to 20.
Herbert’s Castlefields team-mate Rich Goddard, Charlie Weaver (Chester Road) and Colin Beaman (Meole Brace) all won to 10 in a 48 shot romp, but it was Andy Duckett (Chester Road) who took the coppers with a stunning 21-8 card.
