Inventor Geoff Hindley’s Hangam camera holder is on a competition shortlistThe urge to take the perfect holiday snap has landed a Mid Wales man a place in the final of a contest to find the best new gadget inventions. Geoff Hindley’s Hangcam has been shortlisted in Inventors Den.The competition was devised to find budding Welsh innovators who have designed a gizmo which could change life for the better.

Inventors Den is part of Museums and Galleries Month, which runs throughout May.

The theme for this year’s MGM is ideas and innovation and the winning entry will be showcased at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea throughout the month.

Mr Hindley, from Berriew, near Welshpool, said the idea for the Hangcam was born out of frustration as his family holiday pictures always had one person missing – the person behind the camera.

“As a family we have travelled frequently and it’s always such a shame one person has to miss out on being in the picture,” he said.

“The Hangcam not only solves this problem but also enables the photographer to take some great shots at unusual angles.”

His invention is a small camera support which can be used free standing or attached to a variety of surfaces. It is made from aircraft grade alloy and spring steel wire to make it tough and hard-wearing.

Mr Hindley said: “I’ve already claimed intellectual property and copyright of the Hangcam and have won awards at the British Invention Show and the International Palexpo in Geneva for the product.

“I am aiming for the product to remain within the family business in Berriew and I am currently retailing via the internet.”

Heritage minister Rhodri Glyn Thomas will meet the winner of Inventors Den when their item goes on display at the National Waterfront Museum on May 8.
