Strongman’s tribute for TV’s Mark
Thursday 1st May 2008, 6:59PM BST.
A Shropshire strongman is to appear on Britain’s Got Talent and dedicate his performance to his close friend, tragic TV presenter Mark Speight.
Stuart “Goldcrusher” Goldsmith, a Shrewsbury-based nightclub doorman, who also runs a talent management and fashion business in the town, will lift presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly as part of his strongman act.
The 19-stone 38-year-old said he thought Mark, who died aged 42, would be proud of his routine on the ITV show.
He said: “I have dedicated the performance to Mark Speight. He thought the world of what I have done for my strongman charity roadshow.
“His father is setting up the SP8 foundation. Mark used to do a lot of work for disabled children so his father is sorting the foundation out.”
Mr Goldsmith, who has competed in the UK’s Strongest Man competition and performed for the Queen and Elton John, said the crowd was thrilled with his performance but Simon Cowell was less impressed.
Stuart’s act is due to screen on Saturday’s show.
He was devastated when Mr Speight was found hanged at London’s Paddington station.
