Homes plan is likely to be axed
Thursday 1st May 2008, 6:59PM BST.
Plans to build 12 affordable houses in Much Wenlock look set to be thrown out because of fears it will lead to more traffic and noise pollution.
Proposals to construct the homes in Sytche Lane have been met with a barrage of criticism from neighbours who say it will spoil the area and ruin the quality of their lives.
The plans, which have been submitted by Shropshire Affordable Homes, are for four blocks of three three-bedroomed houses together with 18 car parking spaces.
Bridgnorth District Council has received 15 individual letters of objection, as well as one letter which has been copied and sent in 69 times.
The objectors also raised concerns of over-development in the town, increased risk of flooding, inadequate parking provision and loss of good quality agricultural land.
Members of the council’s development committee will discuss the plans at a meeting on May 12 and have been recommended to reject them in a report by planning officers.
However, Councillor Milner Whiteman, said the town was in desperate need of affordable housing and said members of the committee would be carrying out a site visit soon.
“There has been quite a lot of objection to the plans,” he said. “People want affordable housing, but they don’t want it next door to them.
