Two women were taken to hospital after a crash between a car and a 4×4 vehicle in Shropshire.

The smash happened at about 4.50pm yesterday near the Six Ashes pub on the A458 Bridgnorth to Stourbridge Road.

The 62-year-old driver of the 4×4, who is from the Birmingham area, had to be cut out of her vehicle by fire crews.

She was airlifted to New Cross Hospital, in Wolverhampton, by the County Air Ambulance suffering from neck and back pain, as well as a shoulder injury.

The woman in the car, a 58-year-old from Bridgnorth, was taken by land ambulance to Princess Royal Hospital, in Telford, with minor chest pains.

Both carriageways of the busy road were blocked by the accident and police had to close off the road to enable the emergency teams to treat the women.

Motorists caught up in the resulting jams were diverted through Alveley and Bobbington.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said both vehicles suffered significant damage in the accident.

“The ambulance crews requested that the roof of the 4×4 vehicle be cut off so they could get the driver out safely as she was complaining of neck and back pain, as well as a shoulder injury,” he said.

“The 62-year-old from the Birmingham area was airlifted to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton.

“The woman in the car, a 58-year-old from Bridgnorth was taken by land ambulance to Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.”
