Firm makes new bid for Tesco site
Thursday 24th April 2008, 11:50AM BST.
Developers have tabled a fresh offer to buy a former supermarket site in Shrewsbury after a near £7 million deal fell through.
Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council said Morris Homes had made the new offer for the old Tesco site in Arlington Way.
But the site is likely to be remarketed in September after the former supermarket and petrol station have been demolished to prevent the site being targeted by vandals.
Andy Goldsmith, assistant council manager, confirmed Morris Homes had tabled a fresh offer.
He said: “The current deal hasn’t gone through but there is a new deal on the table which we’re exploring.
“The decision by council and cabinet was that we would be looking to remarket the site in September this year after we have cleared the site.”
It is thought that the clear-up of the site would also make the land, which has planning permission for 101 homes, more attractive to a potential buyer.
A spokesman for Morris Homes said: “We are still in discussions and negotiations with the council. We are still interested in the site and we are hopeful of a successful outcome.”
