Search for new technology star

Wednesday 23rd April 2008, 11:49AM BST.

Protomold’s Damian Hennessey, left, with Kim Gilmour and Mike Norris, from the Wolverhampton Telford Technology CorridorWanted – Shropshire’s best technology company. The search is on to find a 2008 successor to Telford-based Protomold, which won top prize in the technology category at the prestigious Shropshire Business Awards last year.

This year’s winner will have the thrill of collecting the award from double Olympic medallist and TV personality Roger Black MBE, in front of an audience of hundreds at a black tie ceremony at Telford International Centre on June 27.

Damian Hennessey, of Protomold, had no doubt about the business benefits of entering the awards, which are organised by the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce and the Shropshire Star

“We were new to the area and winning the award last year was a tremendous boost for our workforce, recognising the progress we had made in developing our technology to provide the best possible products and customer service,” he said of the company, which employs 70 staff producing real injection moulded prototype and low to medium volume parts from customer supplied 3D CAD files.

“I would encourage other companies using technology for competitive advantage to enter the awards as it focuses attention on what you are trying to do and adds considerable value to your business.”

Technology – one of nine categories at this year’s awards – is sponsored, as in 2007, by Wolverhampton Telford Technology Corridor (WTTC). It will be presented to a Shropshire-based company able to demonstrate best use of new technology to improve competitiveness, efficiency and overall business performance.

WTTC Director Mike Norris said: “We want to champion companies exploiting technology and innovation.”
