18lorryvid.jpgA lorry overturned on the M54 in Telford, causing rush-hour chaos. The heavy goods vehicle overturned on the eastbound exit slip road for Telford Town Centre at Junction 5.

It happened at about 7.45am on Thursday and left one lane on the slip road blocked.

A police spokesman said: “The driver was in the cab and pulled himself out. He is not expected to go to hospital.”

Temporary slow signs and traffic cones were put out to warn drivers of the hazard.

Police officers quickly organised the recovery of the lorry from the scene to get traffic flowing once more

Police said some damage was caused to the side of the motorway and a street light was also knocked down.

No other drivers were involved and the driver of the lorry escaped unharmed but was checked over by ambulance staff at the scene.
