Petition to save shops
Wednesday 9th April 2008, 6:59PM BST.
Residents in an area of Shrewsbury have launched a campaign to try and save a row of shops from demolition.
More than 500 people have signed a petition to keep open the Moston Road Shops in Sundorne.
Three shopkeepers have been asked to leave by August 31 so a £5 million revamp scheme by Severnside Housing and Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council can go ahead.
The aim is to reduce anti social behaviour in the area but residents feel knocking down the shops will just move the problem elsewhere.
Campaigner Janice Louch, of Field Crescent, said: “The shops affected include a fish and chip shop, barbers and a convenience food store, which has been running for 25 years.
“Shopkeepers and residents feel the removal of the convenient, accessible and local amenities will be a loss to the community.”

Its a diaster if these shops close. There has been a barbers in Moston Road shops for the last 44 plus years, also there has been a food store there for as long as i can remember and thats 40 plus years. What about the pensioners and people without cars who cannot get to the supermarkets and into town. The shops help build the community. The trouble makers will just move somewhere else as they did on the Grange. So getting rid of these is not the answer.

i was under the impression all had been consulted? residents etc, and the majority were happy to see these shops go ?? have the public then been misled?
