Thanks for crash fire rescue
Saturday 5th April 2008, 11:39AM BST.
The family of a 22-year-old Whitchurch man pulled out of a burning vehicle after a road smash have thanked the man who saved his life.
Margaret and Rob Hewson, from Whitchurch, say they are eternally grateful to Ivor Jones and Kate Schofield for coming to the rescue of their future son in law Garry Whittle after the crash on Thursday night.
Mr Whittle was airlifted to the North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary after the crash on the A49 near Prees at shortly before 6pm on Thursday.
Mr and Mrs Hewson, whose daughter Lyndsey, 21, is engaged to Mr Whittle say they cannot thank Mr Jones and his partner enough.
“I’m very grateful to the man for getting him out of his car, or we don’t know what would have happened. It brings a tear to my eye thinking about it.
“He has fractures to his pelvis and collarbone, and they are X-raying his knee, and we don’t know when he’ll be able to come out of hospital,” Mrs Hewson said.
She added that Mr Whittle and his partner have a 10-month-old daughter, Grace.
Police today renewed their appeal for anyone who saw either a red BMW or a blue Ford Focus being driven on the A49 before the accident at shortly before 6pm on Thursday to call 08457 444888.
