Pensioners targeted by conmen

Wednesday 2nd April 2008, 11:39AM BST.

Bogus water board officials have stolen more than £400 from two pensioners in Telford.

The culprits struck yesterday. In the first incident, an 80-year-old woman, of Shelsy Court, Madeley, opened her front door at 11.45am to a man claiming he needed to switch off the water. A set of car keys and £80 were stolen.

Then at about 1.30pm, a 93-year-old man was at home in West Street, St Georges, when a man, again posing as a water board official, called. Minutes later he left and the victim realised £330 was missing.
