Radio to feature schools debate
Tuesday 1st April 2008, 6:00AM BST.
BBC Radio Shropshire’s Eric Smith is to host a live on-air debate on the future of primary school education in Shropshire.
The breakfast show host will open the discussion at the Music Hall in Shrewsbury at 7pm on April 9.
He said the situation was of great concern to many people.
The BBC decided to organise the debate in light of Shropshire County Council’s decision, which is currently under consultation, to merge 16 primary schools.
The panel consists of the leader of Shropshire County Council, Councillor Malcolm Pate; Councillor Peter Phillips, Liz Nicholson, corporate director for Children and Young Peoples Services, John Hitchings, chairman of Shropshire School Governors’ Council and the Reverend Mark Turner.
Listeners are invited to attend or email/text in their comments during the broadcast.
