Man’s shock at ‘big cat’
Tuesday 1st April 2008, 11:40AM BST.
A Shropshire man was astonished to see what looked like a black panther running at high speed alongside the M54 near Wellington.
Gordon Bates, 62, of Hayward Parade, Oakengates, saw the creature at 6.20pm yesterday as his wife drove him towards Shrewsbury.
The couple were approaching the golf course on the left and Tesco on the right.
“I saw what at first I thought was a greyhound running down the bank from a little red shed on the left,” he said.
“Then I realised it was a cat, jet black in colour with a long tail, just like a panther or cheetah in shape. It was really shifting.”
