Tuesday 1st April 2008, 11:39AM BST.
A young Shropshire designer hopes to be a big success in the fashion world when her work hits the catwalk at a top London show next month.Samantha Waine, of Bridgnorth, has also set up her own website and online shop to display her environmentally-friendly clothing range. The success of the 22-year-old’s company Dirty Pretty has already seen her shortlisted for a national young entrepreneur of the year award.
Now she hopes to catch the eye at Alternative Fashion Week in London’s East End on April 21.
Samantha, who works from her home in Tasley, was shortlisted for the new HSBC Unipreneur Awards at the end of last year.
The University of Plymouth student’s online company offers a luxury clothing brand made entirely from recycled materials and waste from large textile companies.
She makes one-off garments for women sized 8 to 16 and hopes to build on the success of the company she launched on campus in Plymouth.
Samantha said her brand was also about educating people about ethical issues.
“I was part of the Unipreneurs award finalists, where my idea to create a luxury recycled fashion brand got into the semi final,” she said.
“I have now started that brand in Bridgnorth which is launching in April, with its own website and online shop at www.dirtypretty.co.uk
“This company will provide customers an alternative to what they find on the high street, while educating them about ethical issues.
“With all products being created in the UK, Dirty Pretty will promote a national fashion identity that can be easily accessed from the comfort of your own home.”
Samantha’s original aim was to create a luxury online clothing brand made entir- ely out of recycled materials and waste from large textile companies. Her unique garments embrace the concept of sustainability and environmental awareness.
