Vandals post frogspawn
Monday 31st March 2008, 11:40AM BST.
Royal Mail managers today revealed that they have been forced to close a post box in Bridgnorth after vandals posted dog faeces and frogspawn into it.
The post box at Tasley Bank, near the police station, will be out of action until further notice after a spate of attacks.
It was closed at the end of last year but Royal Mail today said it had sealed it off indefinitely after vandals struck again.
The parish council said it could not understand why people were doing it.
Royal Mail spokeswoman Jaquie Stenson said the post box had been sealed up for a short period of time this year but vandals had continued to misuse it.
She said the latest incidents, including dog faeces and frogspawn being posted into the box, had forced the boxes’ closure.
“Unfortunately due to repeated acts of vandalism we have had to temporarily seal the post box at Tasley Bank,” she said.
“This is an ongoing problem and despite measures introduced by both Royal Mail and the parish council the problem persists.
“We will continue to work with both the parish council and the police to find a solution. In the meantime we would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience.”
Tasley parish clerk Geoff Wilcox said: “It’s really horrible. It started about three months ago and has been getting worse.
“We brought in a dog muck bin but it doesn’t seem to have worked. We are looking at other ideas and have discussed CCTV but there would be too many problems.
“It may be that we have to relocate the post box but then we would need planning consent. It is a big problem for the community.”
