Fair planned to help cut bills

A new green fair is planned for Cleobury Mortimer to give local residents ideas on how to save the planet and reduce their energy bills.

Marches Energy Agency is planning the event on April 17 at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club, to run from 5pm to 7.30pm.

It hopes local businesses and residents will find out more about cutting their carbon footprint by using renewable technology.

Businesses would be offered grants towards renewable technology and other initiatives to reduce their carbon emissions.

Agency spokesman Jeremy Thorp said: “This will reduce both utility bills and the carbon footprint. The grants are currently only available for small and medium-sized businesses in Ellesmere, Cleobury Mortimer and the Oswestry flood plains.

“If people are interested in the scheme but live outside the areas, they should contact us anyway. Further funding may be available in April for the majority of Shropshire’s businesses.”

The scheme is being run with support from Advantage West Midlands, Shropshire County Council and the Rural Regeneration Zone.

The green fair will take place at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club.

A number of initiatives have been launched in Church Stretton, Ludlow and Bishop’s Castle to help businesses and residents become more energy efficient.
