Sighting of ‘panther-like’ creature

Thursday 20th March 2008, 11:12AM GMT.

A large black panther-like creature has been spotted on the Silkin Way – the latest in a spate of big cat sightings in Telford.

Shropshire Star reader Sarah Leeder said she came across the animal while she was walking on the trail near Apley Woods yesterday morning. “I saw this black cat between Apley Wood Primary School and the Princess Royal Hospital,” she said.

“It was too big for a domestic cat and did not look like a dog. There was nobody near the animal at the time.”

These sightings are getting more common and more believable. I certainly believe my own eyes and I’ve seen a very large cat (definitely NOT a domestic cat or a dog) on three occasions over the last couple of years. Twice in the southern end of Telford Town Park around dusk, and once in broad daylight near Lightmoor.

I have spoken to many people who use the Park regularly who accept these sightings as relatively commonplace, but don’t contact the media for fear of ridicule (of the sort that I’m sure will be along in a minute!).

I believe i spotted one last year on a summers morning it jumped a fence where ponies were grazing in the field, this was a short distance away from the old derelict farm house on woodside, beyond the field’s are just miles of land and tree’s.

My daughter Verity and I are convinced we saw a very large black panther type animal crossing the road and
moving into the woods opposite the old Mount Nursery in Broseley last night at about 9pm. The animal
had the classical features of a very large cat.
We were travelling up toward Broseley in the car, when the animal moved slowly into the trees, we were
about 40mtrs away at the time. It certainly was not a dog!

As any cat owner will tell you, the best way to catch a cat is to put down an empty box. No cat can resist jumping in it.

I walk my dog around Apley woods 2 or 3 times a week. This morning as I stood waiting for my dog I saw a large black animal just going into the long grass between the avenue of trees across the road from where I park the car. I only saw the back half of it but I am sure, by the shape of it and the way that it moved, that it was a large cat..

There is no doubt in my mind that this black animalis alive in our streets. in fact, its at my home. A large black fe-lion with easy access to the silkin way.
    Approch with caution!
