Sergeant missed her big moment
Wednesday 19th March 2008, 10:36AM GMT.
Here’s another of those photos where we’ve only got a poor quality copy.
This was the royal visit by Princess Elizabeth, later the Queen, to Shrewsbury Castle in 1949 – she and the Duke of Edinburgh were at the Royal Show.
The caption read: “A WRAC sergeant faints but the remainder of the guard of honour stand rigidly to attention as Princess Elizabeth makes her inspection at Shrewsbury Castle yesterday.
“Just before the Princess and Duke of Edinburgh arrived at the Royal Show later in the day, 16 people on a 3ft high wooden balcony fell through the floorboards.”
