Annoyed by timing of roadworks

Wednesday 19th March 2008, 1:42AM GMT.

I am writing to ask for an explanation as to why it was deemed necessary to undertake major roadworks in a residential area overnight.

On Friday, March 7, the A483 through Llanymynech was closed for resurfacing. This is understandable as there is heavy use of the road and doing it with traffic lights would have caused major tailbacks through the village.

What is totally unacceptable is that work commenced on the road at 10pm and continued until 3am.

During this time we had to endure flashing orange lights, reverse beeping warning noise and engine noise as well as the din of the scarifying machinery removing the top layer of tarmac.

This noise during the day would have been unpleasant but in the middle of a highly populated village during the night is unacceptable. Sleep was impossible for us and our neighbours.

Following this sleep deprivation work commenced on Saturday morning at 7am. This is fine but the machinery was tidily parked away and silent by 3pm. The same was repeated on the Sunday.

Why on earth could the work that was undertaken on Friday night have been done by working two full days on Saturday and Sunday?

Sleep is precious. We have two children under two and my husband works full days all week. It is unjustifiable and inconsiderate.

In my opinion no thought was given to the residents of Llanymynech when this work was planned. I look forward to receiving some explanation for this decision.
