It was discovered last week that the death threats, which were posted in November, were traced to a computer in the north east of England. They had been written by a nine-year-old girl, without her parents’ knowledge.

Terri Speak said: “Let’s just hope the girl who sent the threats is never in the same position as Sophie, who is an extremely brave young lady.”

John Franklyn just said he was “simply speechless” that a nine-year-old girl could put up such malicious comments.

Another comment from a reader called Sarah read: “Quite possibly one of the most disturbing things I have ever heard.

“I am seriously concerned about a nine-year-old child doing something as evil as that. What on earth could they develop into and be capable of in the future? I shudder to think, but one thing’s for sure, the kid needs help.”

Ian Payne asked: “What is this world coming to?” while another comment read “completely disgraceful”.

Mrs Foxley, 39, said Sophie, who has suffered from leukaemia since June 2006, was much happier about her blog.

She said: “We have had a few nice comments on the blog and from older people who have got leukaemia who have not read it before.

“We did do a new entry on Sunday and hopefully we can get back to normal now and Sophie is more excited about it because it really did knock her.

“We are always pleased and touched by comments on the website. We love getting them. We had one from France actually with someone reading about our French exchange student, who is staying with us at the moment.”
