County past of tragic cop’s lover

Angie Robinson, former chief executive of Shropshire Chamber of CommerceA former Shropshire businesswoman was today revealed as the former lover of tragic Greater Manchester Chief Constable Michael Todd.Angie Robinson, former chief executive of Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, reportedly had an affair with the married father-of-three.

The pair are said to have been seeing each other for three years. She is said to have recently told her family and colleagues about the relationship which, it is understood, ended a year ago.

Today a police source confirmed Mr Todd had a relationship with 50-year-old Mrs Robinson, who lives in Cheshire with her husband John.

Personal problems are believed to have been behind Mr Todd’s apparent suicide. He was found dead on Mount Snowdon in north Wales on Tuesday.

Mrs Robinson, who has a grown-up son and daughter, was chief executive of Manchester Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She was appointed in July 2000 after leaving Shropshire.

Greater Manchester Chief Constable Michael ToddIn a statement today, the Chamber said: “Angie Robinson is unavailable for comment today. However, she has the full support of the Chamber in her role as chief executive.”

According to reports, Mr Todd had been upset details of the affair had been revealed to his wife and her husband. Mr Todd, 50, had reportedly been involved in affairs with several women, including police officers and a personal assistant.

No-one was at the Robinson family home in Moss Road, Congleton, this afternoon. A bottle of milk was left outside the home and a BMW was parked on the driveway.

Mr Robinson was also not responding to messages left on his mobile phone.

An inquest on Mr Todd, whose body was found next to a half-empty bottle of gin, was being opened today at Anglesey Council Chamber. A toxicology report is expected to be completed and pathologist Dr Anthony Caslin will outline his preliminary findings.
