A Shropshire artist is hoping to get international acclaim after entering a portrait piece to the BP Portrait Awards 2008.Beverley Fry, of Much Wenlock, has painted a portrait entitled Pink Princess – of a young girl from a Much Wenlock family – and has entered it in the awards.
Ms Fry sent the piece to The National Portrait Gallery in London today and will find out at the end of the month whether it has been accepted for the competition.
She said: “It is an international competition and the first prize is £25,000. It is the first time I have entered it. My piece is of a little girl dressed in pink and her pets.
“She is from a family in Much Wenlock, who I have done commissioned work for before. They have very kindly let me use this piece. As she was dressed in pink I decided to name it Pink Princess.
“The exhibition starts in June. I think the winner will be announced on the opening night of the exhibition. I’m just hoping that my piece gets accepted.
“It would be amazing for my work to be shown and it would be very good for me as I’m interested in doing more portrait work.”
