Tuesday 4th March 2008, 9:00AM GMT.

Who next for Shrewsbury Town? With Gary Peters barely out of the door at Otley Road, fans are already debating who should be the next Shrewsbury Town manager.

Who would be best placed to fill the New Meadow hot seat- and why? What sort of qualities do they need?

Should it be a seasoned pro or a young hotshot?

It would be very easy to make a quick appointment and then regret it. It is in all our interests irrespective of individual viewpoints to be 100% behind the team and management until a permanament appointment is made. Win, Draw or lose this Saturday, it would be foolish to read anything into that result. Despite what has happened over the last few days, the result will have probably happened in any case.

If we win that would be great but we cannot make the judgment that it is down to the new structure and equally the same applies if we lose.

The fact is the “lynch mob” have got want they wanted and I hope they will now leave anger behind on Saturday and get behind the team and management. If they don’t I do not give us much hope for the future or for who ever comes in. Look what has happened at Newcastle, they sacked a great manager to to replaced by an inferior one.

Now is the time to get behind the club and fill the ground to capacity on Saturday and show how much we really do care about the clubs future.

Neil SuperBlue – Your are a comedy genius! Absolutely hillarious to think Lee Alladice or Dowie would even look twice at the Town job! Not only are they respectable higher league managers they also realise a club going nowhere fast! If a big manager come in, he would have nothing to spend due to Mr Charisma spending it all on conference players so would have to wait 3-4 years before they had there own squad in place! I think some fans perception of reallity is amusing thinking that someone of that magnitude would want to manage in the county! The shrewsbury job is about as appealing as an Il divo concert to a goth! Even my Sunday league gaffer wouldn’t want it! The club isn’t a “big” club anymore gone are the days of second tier football in the county! The new manager will be someone from below the town, not above! Someon like Steve Burr who has proven himself in Non-league and is looking to make a break in the league. It’s either that or the club will end up with someone who is currently kit man with a premiership due to the fact he knows someon who is a good manager i.e in the “peters” mold!

there’s some great names here for the new boss!!
Peters problem was he over-achieved last year and his reaction to results this year has been really funny.
He was, however, as good as STFC will get.
It sounds like supporters will not like a non-league candidate like Paul Tisdale or the like, and big names will not come to Shropshire to manage.
The board will ‘take their time’ because they are in a no-win position.

We’ve been over rating our club for yrs, last yr we overachieved. We are and have been for the best part of a decade a bottom half side and a lot of the time relegation strugglers.
We’ll be lucky to get 3000 on Saturday, damage limitation will be the name of the game against Rotherham methinks.

James Coull – I’m sure your comments wern’t intended to sound bad, but Mal Musgrove passed away recently after a long illness. Thankfully Fred Davies is still going strong and is quite often seen at the New Meadow.
I’m not quite sure about RealisticShrew and his prediction that there will only be 3000 at the game v Rotherham. Despite it being a poor season we’ve been averaging around 5000 at each game, I can’t quite see why 2000 people would suddenly stop coming just because GP has left.

I seriously doubt there’ll be as few as 3,000 on Saturday vs Rotherham – you don’t just lose 2,000 odd paying customers in 2 weeks (and yes, I did go to Barnet so I did see how badly we played there…)

I’m tempted to say give John McMahon a chance, but I think the board will want to be seen to making a significant move by appointing someone from outside the club. Graham Turner may love STFC but he’s well and truly bedded in at Hereford so there’s no way he’ll move. I can see someone like Paul Simpson getting the job, or Phil Parkinson’s a good call. I sincerely hope the suggestion of Jake King was either a) a joke or b) by someone with amnesia.

we need someone who is prepared to commit to 3-4 years or more (gary had 3+)and one or more promotions in that time. we don’t need more players, the squad we have now is capable of playing good football and getting enough points to be safe. my choice would be ian dowie who is good with players, board, media and fans. we must have a good crowd on saturday and give the players a boost.

I have great concerns that whilst yes a new manager needs to be appointed asap, a lot of supporters have lost sight that we desparetly need a good result on Saturday to stop us dropping deeper into trouble and making the job for the new manager that much harder.

Look I know John McMahon will probably not get the job but if we care about the clubs future it is in all our interests to get 100% behind him and the team on Saturday to try and get something from the game. Anyone who thinks different is clearly not supporting the club but more interested in character assination.

I know we all have different views on who should be appointed and the Board will know doubt make a considered decision which will not please everyone. Meanwhile we are in deep trouble and excuse the pun but we are in danger of “taking our eye off the ball”.

We should be putting our differences behind us on Saturday and turning out in our thousands to rally the team on. After all those critics have got what they wanted so now it is up to the Board to make the right decision. In the meantime the matches keep comming up and have to be played.

Speaking as a Northender, I can’t understand why GP hasn’t been given more of a chance with you guys. He did wonders with us and we had some amazing times. My word of advice though, is avoid Paul Simpson with everything you can muster. The man is a fool and he will take your club in the wrong direction.
