Lake search to continue

Friday 29th February 2008, 11:40AM GMT.

Army personnel are planning a second intensive search of a Mid Wales lake to see if ammunition was dumped there at the end of the Second World War.

Specialists used metal detecting equipment to search Llandrindod Wells lake during the initial search on Tuesday.

It followed reports to Powys County Council from residents who said there may have been pieces of ordnance dumped in the lake after the war. The Army’s second search of the lake will be carried out next month.

The council intends to dredge the lake to improve the water quality.
