Martin and JackieA Telford woman said she felt like she had “won the lottery” after she proposed to her partner live on radio this morning – and he said “yes”.

Jackie Williams, of Muxton, has been waiting for years for her partner Martin Williams to ask her to marry her but the proposal never came.

But this week – when she heard Telford FM was looking for one woman to do the deed live on air and take advantage of it being a leap year – she decided to take the plunge.

The nervous mother-of-one, who runs a dog-grooming business, arrived at the Ketley-based radio station shortly after 8am.

Breakfast presenter Shuttsie dialled the number and got Martin, who was out at work on a farm, on the line. Jackie then popped the question.

Jackie, who met Martin seven years ago in an Oakengates nightclub, said: “I said to him – I love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you – will you marry me?

“He said ‘Yes, of course I will’. I was absolutely gobsmacked. I really didn’t think he’d say yes. I’ve always been waiting for him to propose.”

Jackie added: “I feel like I’ve won the lottery. I feel really happy and excited and I’ve had so many texts saying well done and congratulations.”

The couple, who are both 47, are now looking forward to an August wedding at Gretna Green.
