‘Lighter hurled’ at player
Wednesday 27th February 2008, 11:57AM GMT.
An investigation was under way today after an opposition supporter allegedly hurled a lighter at AFC Telford United’s goalkeeper during a match.
Club bosses are now being asked for their accounts of the incident by the Football Association.
Goalkeeper Ryan Young was allegedly targeted with the lighter during the game between Telford and Alfreton Town on Saturday – AFC Telford United won the game 1-0.
A second incident is also alleged to have happened after the game, between celebrating Bucks fans and Alfreton Town supporters in the sponsors lounge.
Club bosses today called it a “small fracas” between the two club supporters.
AFC Telford club chairman Lee Carter said “We will be making our observations and thoughts to the FA in due course.
“We will deal with any Telford supporter identified as being involved in the second incident very severely.”
