Council to put road works right
Thursday 21st February 2008, 11:40AM GMT.
Civic leaders will meet tonight to discuss how to put right a “botched” £290,000 road scheme in Craven Arms.
Shropshire County Council completed a programme of improvements in Corvedale Road in 2005.
However, alterations led to major problems because the road was narrowed, making it impossible for some vehicles to pass and leading to long delays.
Local residents protested that their views had been ignored and that the works were a disaster.
Today Claude Bodenham, a former county councillor for the area, said: “They didn’t listen last time and they botched the job.
“The locals told them not to narrow the road too much but they went ahead anyway.
“When they realised the works were wrong, they made excuses. They must listen this time and give people the scheme that they want. Compensation should be also paid to the traders, who will lose revenue while the works are completed.”
A meeting of Shropshire County Council’s scrutiny committee will tonight consider a new scheme. Councillors will consider two schemes to remedy problems, one costs £15,000 and the other costs £120,000.

How appropriate! The advert under this news item was for Google Maps and the headline was: “Where’s Wally?”
Working at Shropshire County Council.
But do not worry, citizens of Shropshire. We bring you good news! For the Wallys who botched this relatively simple programme of road improvements will now be solely responsible for ALL aspects of local government throughout Shropshire! Sort of fills you with hope, doesn’t it?
Still, those on the borders can petition to have their ward moved to a neighbouring authority.
Fancy Wales, Cheshire, Staffordshire, Telford and Wrekin, Worcestershire, anyone?
