Battle for fair shopping

cosmetics.jpgThere has always been this battle between the sexes, you know the whole “anything you can do, I can do better” scenario, writes our Teen Blogger Rhian.

Even with The Sex Discrimination Act in place there are still arguments about which gender has it best.

Last summer while I was at work, I remember a male customer who had an unexpected complaint about the choice of male products.

At the time, we had an offer on our own brand of cosmetics which entitled you to a voucher when you spent a certain amount of money, but he said the voucher was sexist because there was a far better choice of toiletries for women than there was for men.

Actually he had a point. At the time, I personally didn’t think men cared about having a selection of products, I always thought shampoo or conditioner to them was just something that sat in the bathroom and was fair game for them to use, right?

Well, it seems I was wrong. A poll taken late last year proved that men actually read the labels of certain products to find which one suits them best.

After that, I noticed quite a few male customers complaining about how the selection of products for men wasn’t as great as the selection for female, not just in my store though, but in many different shops and even supermarkets.

A lot of voices and opinions tend to never get heard, but someone was listening this time. Since last year, I have noticed a whole line of new products being produced for males, such as Veet, who have produced waxing kits for men and even Boots No.7 who have produced a new range for men with their very own famous “Protect and Perfect” initially specially designed for females, but now for males too.

So, men no longer have to feel as though it’s just us girlies who have a choice.

It’s kind of nice knowing men do have a femine side and care about whether their shampoo has added shine or built in coconut oil for an anti-drying effect, but all I know is, if I was you I would buy an extra shelf because by the sounds of it men are soon going to have the same amount of toiletries as us girls.

Although, just because I pinch my boyfriend’s shirt to knock around in doesn’t mean he can pinch my wax strips!
