New fans’ favourite Guy Madjo is confident Shrewsbury Town are on the road to long-term success – despite last night’s defeat at Bradford.Gary Peters’ men were beaten 4-2 in a pulsating encounter in West Yorkshire, but produced another impressive attacking display.
The 23-year-old failed to add to his two goals since his switch from Crawley earlier this month, but enhanced his growing reputation by leading the line impressively.
Madjo, however, insists he is more concerned about team success than individual glory and is convinced another step was taken forward last night.
“I am desperate to be part of a winning team here at Shrewsbury and although we are disappointed to have lost, I don’t feel we are very far away at all,” said the Cameroon frontman.
“We played very well last night and we are just having a run of bad luck at the moment – conceding in the 92nd minute at Grimsby and then we could easily have got back to 3-3 last night.
“The team is playing well so I’m sure the results will soon come.
“I’m loving every moment here. The players have been very welcoming and the fans have been singing my name right from the start so I just want to keep doing well.”
Manager Peters has vowed to persist with the bold attacking approach adopted by his team in the last two games.
“We had to do something different and the way we are playing is not giving up on this season,” he said.
“It’s the total opposite because we are going hell for leather for wins and we are going to have to win a lot of games to get to the play offs.
“We are going to keep being aggressive, attacking the opposition and playing with a high line and a high tempo, but we have to learn how to shut the back door .”
Peters has refused to rule out the addition of a striker before the closure of the transfer window tomorrow, although insists he will not be forced into a “panic buy.”
But one player who looks set to move on in the next 24 hours is Ryan Esson.
The Scottish goalkeeper this morning confirmed he expects to agree a settlement on the remainder of his contract today.
Esson has had to play second fiddle to Glyn Garner this term, capping a frustrating 18 months at Shrewsbury which saw much of his first season ruined by an absence due to a fractured cheekbone.

How can conceding 4 goals against a team in the bottom half of the table be a step forward?
Yes we’re now attacking teams but this just highlights GP’s managerial flaws. How could he be so naive as to attack teams so much that he exposes our already shoddy defence more? You’d think he’d know more about the balance of play from his ’38 years boy and man in the game’.

I agree- the ‘were on the road to success’ excuse is the longest running story of an underachieving season you can have!!!!

Too late Sid, Ryan Esson has had his contract terminated today!!
The problem at Bradford was poor finishing, the lads had half a dozen good chances but missed the target too often, the home side didn’t and that was the difference between them. When GP sharpens up the quality of finishing we should stand a better chance of stringing some wins together.

Oooooops too late with Esson.
Never gonna get a chance with GP’s love for Garner covering the fact Garner’s not good enough

Writing with CapsLock does’nt make your comment more important than others, people just get annoyed.
Writing in CapsLock means that your’e shouting out, and considered a foolish act in debates ect. on the internet.

I agree about people writing in capitals, it is very rude and annoying. One way to solve it would be for the moderator to delete such articles and not publish. Any views?
