Two goals are two too few

After scoring two goals away from home and creating a number of chances we would be forgiven for expecting three points, writes Shrewsbury Town Blogger James Pugh.
However, due to the amount of consistency we have shown this season and amount of bad luck that follows us everywhere, it doesn’t surprise me that we end up losing 4-2 against Bradford.
Gary Peters said at the weekend that we would attack teams until the end of the season and to our credit we did.
My concern now turns to our defence and I wonder if we have got enough quality to keep sides out.
To be fair to the team luck two of the goals were from deflections and the other from a penalty.
To me Kelvin Langmead continues to impress and I feel in Ben Herd and Marc Tierney we have got two quality full-backs.
I feel we are desperately short of a decent partner for Langmead, as Colin Murdoch and Darren Kempson have both been big disappointments.
Gary wants a new striker before the transfer window closes but I also think he should think about a new centre half because we are going to concede too many goals against the better teams in the league.
What is it with former Town players as well as those currently on loan performing so well for their clubs, yet when they play for us we do not see the best of them.
For example, Michael Symes has been a big disappointment this season and has struggled to score. Yet he scores for Macclesfield against MK Dons after just a couple of games.
I didn’t agree with Neil Ashton being loaned out and it didn’t surprise me that he starred for Macclesfield in their first game.
Similarly, players join the club with big reputations and in a short space of time we seem to ruin their careers. Most recent is Stuart Drummond who had been Chester’s player-of-the-season when we bought him. Glynn Hurst joined us with a reputation of being a goalscorer and he didn’t last long either.
Is it due to the player themselves or is it Gary’s tactics? I fear it could be the latter.
Saturday sees us at home against struggling Lincoln. Our home form has been pretty good recently and hopefully with the positives that have come out of the last few games we can get the three points.
I fear that if we do not go on a big undefeated run like we did last season and if we continue to slip-up then we may have to accept a mid-table finish and look to build for next season

I agree that we Town should change to attacking style, and I also agree that have to look at the defence in order to do that.
You cannot compare Symes at Maccs and Symes at Town, thats two different worlds. If a striker scores goals for one club, he does’nt always have to do it in another. There is a string of variables that plays in.
As Gary said, Town will need around 5 points to secure their stay in the league, som the team have nothing to loose, lets play on our terms, lets attack and lets see what happend.

What a whinging article. GP has chained tactics, ok we lost but the team show a lot more promise. Get behind GP and not knock him.
You say about getting in quality players. If they are quality players they will not play for long at this level. He has to work with what the club can afford.

Denis, Peters has only changed as a last resort under pressure and his shocking tactical ineptitude has become apparent to the majority.
I am still fully behind the players but GP has lost me (and a large part of the fanbase) for good.

Bradford was an entertaining game and you cant question the lads effort but defensively we we’re poor again. Kempson is like Redmile in disguise. Why cant Jones get a game? Peters seriously needs to look at people like Kempson and Murdock and question himself on why he got these two in and let Burton and Hope go

the reason why we have changed tactic to a more attacking style of play is because we have signed a more attacking forward. it is not because of desperation or fan pressure it is simply because we now have a forward who can play with the ball on the ground and likes it passed to his feet,
just accept it, he was a good purchase by a good manager
also i was listening to radio shropshire after the grimsby game and not only did someone blame gary peters for the murdoch sending off but also for making substitutions near the end of the game when we were one nil up, away from home, with 10 men on the pitch.(who wouldn’t do that )

Sack Peters and get Nigel Pearson in as boss. Now there’s a man who knows about defending.

I agree with much of what the blogger says except his assertion that our home form is pretty good recently. Does two defeats in the last three home games deserve such an accolade? Two of those performances were very poor indeed.

Sould be known as the Shrewsbury Moaner not the Shrewsbury Blogger.
Typical of many of our so called fans though.
