Fields in move for new face

Tuesday 29th January 2008, 11:37AM GMT.

Delighted Castlefields have unveiled Shropshire’s first major bowls recruit of the year.Warwick & Worcester star Gareth Herbert has signed for the Shrewsbury-based Premier League club.

The 22-year-old was a Midland Masters semi-finalist and Autumn Waterloo quarter-finalist last year.

His capture is a major coup as Castlefields, the five time Premier champions, aim to an end a seven-year title drought.

“He’s an absolutely class act,” said delighted Fields vice-captain Simon Parsonage.

“He lives in Acocks Green (Birmingham) but there’s no problem with him travelling and he’s a great addition to our squad.”

Shropshire squad man Keith Wall has already rejoined the club from Greenfields and Parsonage – No 2 to Keith Walton – said there would be no more Premier signings by the club.

“We have got two good signings and they should help put us in the mix for honours this season,” he added.

Herbert won the British Junior Merit in 2004 – the year after his new Fields team-mate Callum Wraight.
