Detectives investigating yesterday’s attempted robbery in St John’s Street, Low Town, believe two or three people were involved, one of whom entered the branch and threatened a member of staff with a gun.

Police said several shots were fired by the gunman, causing damage to the glass partition at the post office, but no-one was hurt.

The man threatened a member of staff with the gun and demanded money, but left empty-handed a few minutes later. Two customers were in the shop at the time of the raid, at about 9.15am yesterday.

The man is believed to have got into a white car nearby, which contained at least one other person but possibly two, which then made off along St John’s Street at speed.

Acting Detective Inspector Chris Hughes, who is investigating the incident, said the getaway car is believed to have driven off towards Mill Street and then towards Bandon Island.

He said: “We are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a red car, similar to a Peugeot or a Vauxhall Astra, which was almost in collision with the getaway vehicle as it made off along St John’s Street.”

This is the second robbery at this Post Office in a matter of months. I find it sickening that Post Office’s are being targeted, and whats more that the Royal Mail expect the victims to pay up if money is taken! They are being robbed twice! It wouldn’t surprise me if the Postmaster decided to shut up shop, who wants to be a sitting duck?

Is this the reason there were lots of armed police walking around Sutton Hill at about 2:15 on Friday afternoon?
else why has has that not been reported?
